Loewe - MEP Design coordination and project delivery

Loewe, a new client for Sideland, reached out following Heathrow’s recommendation to engage an experienced team capable of delivering in a highly busy, complex environment. Sideland was appointed after a meeting with Loewe for their first store at Heathrow Terminal 3—a significant partnership built on trust and expertise.

Our team began by reviewing the initial concept design and quickly determined, based on the fire strategy, that we could modify the ceiling layout. We shifted from a slatted ceiling to a solid MF ceiling, which helps establish part of Loewe’s brand identity.

Throughout the design phase, we collaborated closely with Loewe, delivering a fully coordinated MEP design that seamlessly integrated with their layouts and equipment. Numerous coordinated sessions were held with teams from around the globe, including Spain, Italy, and England, showcasing the remarkable technology available for real-time collaboration.

The end result was a high-quality unit that exceeded expectations and was well received by both Heathrow and Loewe during the build and opening phases. By working with teams across the Heathrow campus and navigating the complexities of Terminal 3, we overcame obstacles while maintaining a challenging programme.

Key Highlights:

• Fire Strategy & Ceiling Change: Early identification of the fire strategy led to a ceiling redesign that met the client’s preferences.

• Structural Modifications: Removed existing steel beams supporting both the Loewe space and adjacent areas without compromising other units, and installed new beams without affecting the hollow rib beams below.

• Engineered Solutions: Developed solutions for running services through the unit while preserving both the hollow rib beams and the overall structural integrity.

• Building Control & Certification: Collaborated closely with building control to ensure all necessary products and certifications were in place for fire-rated enclosures, in full adherence to the terminal fire strategy.

• High-Quality Fit-Out: Delivered a fit-out of exceptional quality, which we are excited to see open and trading at Heathrow.
